Pāreu day

Date: May 29

The pāreu, or pareo, is a garment deeply rooted in Polynesian culture. Now exported and used all over the world, the pāreu is an everyday accessory in French Polynesia. It is worn at the beach, at home, as a performance costume, or simply for going out. On Pāreu Day, everyone is invited to celebrate this cultural tradition by wearing it in their own way! Events are often held on May 29 to celebrate this festive day.

Tahiti Fashion Week

This is the biggest fashion event in French Polynesia. Tahiti Fashion Week, created by designer Alberto Vivian, showcases Polynesian culture in a uniquely glamorous setting. A modeling contest is also held during the week, giving the winners the opportunity to sign their first contracts with international modeling agencies.

With spectacular runway shows, artistic performances, daring designs, and opportunities for young talent to meet established designers, Tahiti Fashion Week celebrates the sophistication of Polynesian fashion at every show.

 

The Mister and Miss Tahiti Pageants

Sponsored each year by Air Tahiti Nui, the Miss Tahiti election is a must-see event in French Polynesia. At every edition, the public becomes captivated by this prestigious competition. Everyone shares their opinions and casts their votes to elect the beauty queen who will represent the strength, grace, and spirit of French Polynesia for an entire year. For spectators, the Miss Tahiti pageant is a magnificent show not to be missed, and a chance to get a sneak peek at Polynesia’s candidate for the upcoming Miss France election.

 

Mister Tahiti

Every year, the Mister Tahiti pageant selects the man who will represent French Polynesia. Much more than just a beauty contest, it is elegance, strength, and the embodiment of Polynesian values that allow the contestants to stand out. The election evening features fashion shows and unique performances. The young man crowned Mister Tahiti then becomes an Ambassador forThe Islands of Tahiti and will represent the Fenua (our islands) in mainland France at the annual Mister France election.
